Met my expectations

First smart phone I've had, and pleasantly surprised - I expected to be disappointed as that's been my experience with simple phones.

JCB could probably have done better than this though. I bought it for the extra protection and the longer guarantee. The special JCB app was less important, and motoblur seems to be something to avoid.

The extra sleeve doesn't fit too well. It bulges slightly at the sides and the JCB logo is rubbing off after a couple of days. Pity they didn't do a yellow sleeve - it might have been garish but it's quite nice to show how little you care about sleek smooth phone fashion. I'd like it to look my my multimeter, not an iPhone in a cheap sleeve. Just my opinion.

The box says it's guaranteed for 2 years, the leaflet inside says 1 year. I'm not quite sure if there's some special arrangement for claiming an extended guarantee, so I hope it's OK. The Motorola websites don't seem to acknowledge this version exists so who knows ?

The JCB app sucks a bit. First, it groups all the functions into the app. It would respect the android style a bit better if each function were separate. calculator is unnecessary.

Units converter only does weight/distance/temperature. It has a text query (looks like it asks google) but that crashed when I tried to use it for pressure. fail.

Sound meter is a nice toy but appears to clip at 89dB so not a lot of use. I don't know if it's accurate.

Spirit level is odd - the bubble doesn't move far, the numeric display is dim and hard to read, it's not obvious which tilt direction it reads, and there's a box marked 'set angle' which doesn't do anything expected. fail.

theodolite is pretty cool but I have yet to measure anything remotely accurately with it. Maybe it works, maybe not.

In the phone's battery manager display, it shows 96% of the battery has been used on the JCB app and 2% on the phone. It seems to be stuck. Battery has lasted a couple of days so far so I suspect it's not really drained it all, but there's something wrong there either with the battery manager or the JCB app. No, i didn't leave it running.

All in all - nice phone, shame about the branding. Could well still be worth the exta money for the extended guarantee. But, I wouldn't buy any software from the people who did the application, apparently someone called red button technology. If you read this, red button, please do some more testing.
