Bought this as an upgrade to an eTrex H for my Wife. She's heavy into Geocaching and this model gives her the option of 'paperless Geocaching'. Transferring caches from Geocaching.com to the unit is simple. The basemap that the unit comes with is of limited use but there are free open source (very accurate and fully featured) maps available from 'Talkytoaster'. The eTrex H we upgraded from has been in use for 6 or 7 years without problem, if this model performs as good we'll be very happy.

Little new to this and although the etrex seems to do everything I want, there is a lot of downloading to do. so it is not a simple turn on and away you go, you must download basecamp, then a compatable to transfer to the unit, then extra maps.

Having said that, once its all up and running it seems to do the job perfectly, tracks are easily managed in basecamp. So far so good.

As for handtec, highly rated, international delivery was superfast

  • what maps are preloaded onto the etrex20 and is there an option to purchase regional OS maps( Scotland) cheers john
    This device comes with a Basemap installed. Although it doesn\'t come preloaded with any maps. These can be expanded with the GB discovery maps. Scotland maps are available.

  • Is this the UK version or the cheaper US version which isnt as accurate.
    The item we sell will be sourced from Garmin EU, it will come with a full UK/EU warranty for 12 months.

GLONASS is a system developed by the Russian Federation that will be fully operational in 2012. And when using both GPS and GLONASS, the receiver has the ability to lock on to 24 more satellitesthan using GPS alone.
