mobile network connections around the world — including advanced
wireless networks such as HSPA, HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA. So you can download
content, stream video and browse the web at amazing speeds — without a

Siri - You're intelligent assistant
Just ask Siri.
Siri is the intelligent assistant that helps you get things done, just
by asking. Talk to Siri as you would to a person: ask “Do I need an
umbrella?” or “What time is the barbecue on Sunday?” Siri not only
understands what you say, it knows what you mean. It works out the right
apps to use to find the right answer. Then, just like a personal
assistant, Siri provides you with the information you need.7
iOS - Operating System
The world’s most advanced mobile operating system.
At the core of every iPad, iPhone or iPod touch is iOS. It includes all
the built-in apps you use every day and all the intuitive technology —
like Multi-Touch and Siri — that makes iPad mini so advanced. With every
free iOS update comes even more capability for your devices. You’ll
find the latest version, iOS 6, already installed on iPad mini. So
straight out of the box, you get more than 200 new features to make the
things you do
i-Cloud - Built Directly into the iPad
Your content. On all your devices.
iCloud is built directly into iPad mini. Just turn it on and you’ll
have instant access to all the things you need, whether you’re on your
iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Mac or PC.8 New features in iOS 6 let you do
even more with iCloud. Share the photos you want with the people you
choose using Shared Photo Streams. Locate, lock and recover your
misplaced iPad mini easier than ever. Browse a web page on one device
and pick up where you left off on another using iCloud Tabs. And that’s
just for starters.
AirPlay - Play it on your iPad Mini. Watch it on your HDTV.
Stream via AirPlay.
All the great stuff on your iPad mini — your music, photos and videos —
can stream wirelessly to your HDTV and speakers via Apple TV9 or to
AirPlay-enabled speakers over a Wi-Fi network. With just a tap of the
AirPlay icon, you can rock the house with your favourite album, have a
film night or show off some photos. And go large.
Print via AirPrint.
Print straight from your iPad mini over Wi-Fi with AirPrint. There’s no
software to download, no drivers to install and no cables to connect.
Print from Mail, Photos, Safari and iBooks. Or any of the iWork apps —
Pages, Keynote and Numbers. With just a few taps, you can send
whatever’s onscreen to an AirPrint-enabled printer.
iPad mini Smart Cover - Smaller, but just as smart
Made for iPad mini. And vice versa.
The cover that wakes up, stands up and brightens up iPad has been
redesigned for iPad mini.10 And what a smart pair they are. iPad mini
and the iPad mini Smart Cover, that is. Magnetic technology built into
each one really pulls them together. The Smart Cover snaps perfectly
into place to protect your screen — without adding bulk. Open the Smart
Cover and your iPad mini wakes up. Close it and your iPad mini goes to
sleep. Fold the Smart Cover and it becomes a stand. It’s all just so,
Lightning Connector - Smaller, Smarter, Durable, Reversible
A new way to get connected.
iPad mini is so thin and light, it requires an ultra-slim connector.
It’s called the Lightning connector, and it features an all-digital,
eight-signal design that’s significantly more durable than the 30-pin
connector. Another brilliant feature of Lightning: it’s reversible.
Which means there’s no wrong way to plug in the cable.
Lightning to 30-pin Adapter.
If you have an iPad accessory that depends on the 30-pin connector, you
can still connect it to your iPad mini. Simply use a Lightning to
30-pin Adapter (sold separately).
Making an iPad this small was no small feat.
Our goal was clear: create the smallest possible iPad that could still
deliver the full iPad experience. iPad mini is 23 per cent thinner, 53
per cent lighter* and fits in one hand — yet it can do everything an
iPad can do. To accomplish that, we went back to the very beginning and
designed it from scratch.
Since iPad is all about the display, that’s where we started. We wanted
it to be small, but not too small. It had to be big enough to do all
the things you love to do on iPad. And it had to work with all the apps
made for iPad. With that as our guide, we were able to determine the
perfect size: 7.9 inches. Because at that size, it feels like an iPad in
every way — only it’s mini.
But iPad mini isn’t just a scaled-down iPad. We designed it to be a
concentration, rather than a reduction, of the original. A refined
unibody consolidates more parts into one. A single-cell battery — the
thinnest ever made by Apple — takes up less space, but lasts just as
long. The iSight camera is smaller, yet still takes 5-megapixel photos
and shoots full 1080p HD video. And while the display is slimmer and
lighter, it’s also incredibly vibrant.
An amazing display. Any way you look at it.
The iPad mini display stands out in all the right ways. It has the same
1024x768 resolution as iPad 2 — in a size that’s significantly smaller.
So everything looks incredibly crisp and sharp. And since the iPad mini
display has a 35 per cent larger screen than a 7-inch tablet,
everything is easier to read and interact with. The iPad mini display is
also designed to take greater advantage of every pixel. So apps,
magazines and documents fill the screen, from top to bottom and edge to
edge. In portrait and in landscape.
A display that's not just smaller. It's smarter.
iPad mini is small. But when you use it, it doesn’t feel small. That’s
because it’s designed to give you the maximum amount of screen in the
minimum amount of space. To achieve that, we had to rethink the
relationship between the screen and the overall shape of the product.
iPad has symmetrical bezels around all its edges. But for iPad mini, we
reduced the width of the bezels on two sides of the display. So although
the screen is smaller, it’s even more prominent. Rethinking the screen
meant we also had to rethink the software behind it. iPad mini
intelligently recognises whether your thumb is simply resting on the
display or whether you’re intentionally interacting with it. It’s the
kind of detail you’ll notice — by not noticing it. And it’s a great
example of how Apple hardware and software work together to give you the
best experience possible.
It all comes together beautifully
In making iPad mini, we executed every detail with extraordinary
precision. That’s what gives iPad mini its incredible fit and finish.
Take, for example, the aluminium unibody — our most advanced yet. We
took everything we’ve learned about making a unibody enclosure and
refined the process to be even more material-efficient and exact. With
tolerances measured in microns, mono-crystalline diamond-cut edges and
sleek metallic finishes, iPad mini was designed and engineered to
incredibly high standards. And you can sense that every time you pick it
up. It feels beautifully made. Precisely because it is.
Great shots are in the details.
Mega-pixels matter. But the quality of a photo is determined by other
things too — like the camera’s optics, image signal processor and
software. The iSight camera uses advanced optics to give you the best
picture possible. With an ƒ/2.4 aperture and a five-element lens, it
captures light efficiently to produce a sharper and brighter overall
image. And the hybrid infrared filter — typically reserved for expensive
SLR cameras — keeps out harmful IR light for more accurate, uniform
Advancements that go layers deep.
The five-element camera lens built into iPad mini captures light efficiently to produce a sharper and brighter overall image.
The thought and consideration we put in to our products go well beyond design.
How a product looks and performs matters, but so does its impact on the
environment. That’s why nearly every Apple product is made from highly
recyclable materials like aluminium, and why we refuse to use harmful
toxins in our components.
Every iPad mini is free of brominated
flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). In fact, Apple
has one of the strictest BFR-free and PVC-free standards in the
industry. And we expect the same from our suppliers. We go so far as to
disassemble our products into individual components and materials in our
Cupertino lab. Then we test them using many methods, including X-ray
fluorescence spectroscopy and ion chromatography. We do this to ensure
that every product we release meets our environmental standards.
Does every little thing. And every big one too.
Browse the web. Check email. Make FaceTime calls. Share your photos. Or
ask Siri to do it all for you. iPad mini features the same helpful, fun
and everyday essential built-in apps as iPad. So you can do all the
things you love to do. On a device that’s thinner, lighter and every bit
